Label Lamination & Protection Tape FAQs
How do I apply Label Lamination & Protection Tape?
For protecting labels on flat surfaces
- Ensure the label and surface are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and contaminants.
- Apply the label securely before laminating.
- Cut the lamination tape slightly larger than the label.
- Position the tape over the label and gradually remove the backing liner while applying firm pressure.
- Smooth the tape from the centre outwards to remove any air bubbles.
- Press firmly across the entire surface to ensure a strong, long-lasting bond.
For protecting labels on cables
- Ensure the label and surface are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and contaminants.
- Apply the label securely before laminating.
- Cut the lamination tape slightly larger than the label, with enough material to wrap around the cable and overlap itself buy approximately 50%
- Position the tape over the label and gradually remove the backing liner while applying firm pressure.
- Smooth the tape from the centre outwards to remove any air bubbles.
- Press firmly across the entire surface to ensure a strong, long-lasting bond.
Tip: For best results, apply at room temperature and avoid touching the adhesive during installation.
What is lamination tape used for?
Lamination tape is used to protect printed labels, cable markers, and identification tags from damage caused by abrasion, moisture, dirt, and general wear and tear. It helps extend the life and readability of important information.
Can this tape be used to protect cable labels?
The tape is ideal for protecting cable and wire identification labels, but it is not intended to offer any protection of the cable itself. Furthermore, it does not extend the intended service life of the cable or alter the manufacturer’s recommended use, inspection, maintenance, or replacement requirements. Users must regularly inspect cables to ensure they remain undamaged and safe for use.
Is the tape suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. The weather-resistant construction and high-performance adhesive make it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications where labels may be exposed to moisture and varying environmental conditions.
What adhesive does the tape use?
The tape features high-tack 3M™ 468 adhesive, providing a strong, long-lasting bond to a wide range of surfaces.
Can the tape be cut to size?
Yes. Supplied on a continuous roll, the tape can be easily cut to the required length to suit different label sizes and applications.
What types of labels can be protected?
The tape is designed to protect self-printed labels, cable markers, asset labels, equipment identification labels, barcode labels, and other printed identification systems.
Is the tape resistant to abrasion?
Yes. The durable laminate layer helps protect labels from scratches, scuffs, and everyday handling, making it ideal for industrial, commercial, and rental environments.
Can the tape be applied over existing labels?
Yes. Simply apply the tape over a clean, securely attached label to create a protective barrier and improve longevity.
Is the tape easy to apply?
Yes. The continuous roll format allows users to cut the required length and apply it quickly and easily over printed labels and identification markers.
What industries commonly use lamination tape?
This product is widely used in manufacturing, electrical installation, facilities management, data centres, telecommunications, AV and broadcast, live events, logistics, and asset management applications.
PLEASE NOTE: For best results, we recommend applying to a surface that is smooth, clean, dry, non-porous and free from dust, oil and other contaminants.
